Why What We Resist, Persists

Learn why what we resist tends to persist, including physical symptoms, and how advanced neural retraining can help.

Video transcript

Hi, Madeleine Lowry, certified MAP Method practitioner. I'm here to talk about the saying: "What we resist, persists," and how this applies to chronic illness.

I see this a lot in the work that I do with advanced neural retraining techniques, specifically the MAP Method, in working with people with all kinds of chronic conditions.

What I understand through working with so many people in so many different situations is that healing starts with acceptance of who we are, and where we are: the state that we are in right now.

And the reason this is, is that with chronic illness there's this tendency to exacerbate a kind of split between mind, body, and spirit.

So, we are all mind, body, and spirit. This method of advanced neural retraining is a mind-body practice. And when we have a split between mind, body, and spirit we are degrading our innate ability to heal.

Now, how can that be, right? In functional medicine and in my training original training as a nutritional therapy practitioner (NTP) we talk about an innate intelligence inherent to the body that allows the body to heal itself.

So, what we are doing as nutritional therapy practitioners, and other functional medicine practitioners would probably say the same, what we are doing is we are trying to remove the stressors, the blocks, the barriers that are preventing the body from coming back into a state of health.

But, what I understand further, now having worked with subconscious minds extensively is that the innate intelligence is not something that is just integral to us. And it's not a static thing. It's based on a connection that we have to a kind of universal consciousness, you might think of it as life force energy.

This is sometimes called chi, or prana, or in other religious traditions, you know, there are different names for it like holy spirit. But, we need to be connected to a kind of universal field of information. In physics it's called the zero point field. I think we're all talking about the same thing.

When we are connected to this field of information, when it flows through us, that provides the innate intelligence for the body to begin to heal.

But, when we are split, when we have a consciousness that is split-- mind, body, and spirit not working together--then our access to this natural healing power is diminished.

If you want to read more about this, the book Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra is helpful or The Healing Self by the same author. These are good books to start with, but if you're thinking: "Well, what causes the split and what can I do about it?" In my work what I see is the split is caused by negative thoughts, negative emotions, fears, trauma experiences, and the resulting limiting beliefs that are formed around those.

These are the kinds of barriers and blocks that form that need to be released through a process of neural retraining or some other method of working with the mind body

And when we can do that successfully, then we are in the place where healing can start.

So, if you would like to learn more about this I would suggest listening to episodes of my podcast, Flourish with Neural Retraining. There are interviews that I've done with various clients with different kinds of chronic health conditions where they talk about the benefits that they have seen from a set of sessions around a given condition.

Hearing the stories, I think, is very helpful for understanding how this process unfolds, how it is that we can work with painful emotional memories or triggers for painful emotions and neutralize the underlying trauma experiences behind those responses thereby releasing unconscious sources of stress that are keeping us split-- that are keeping us from accessing healing and and improving our health.

You can also visit the website Mind ReMAP for Health and learn more about this particular modality, if working with the mind is something that you are interested in.

Thank you for listening.
