How does the MAP Method Compare with DNRS or the Sarno Method?

Madeleine Lowry, NTP, CMMP • Oct 10, 2022

Learn about the latest advanced neural retraining method that's faster and easier than basic methods requiring months of practice.

What is DNRS? What is the Sarno Method?

DNRS-- the Dynamic Neural Retraining System-- and the Sarno method are two basic methods of neural retraining that have been around for decades.

The DNRS method was created by Annie Hopper, and the Sarno method was created by John Sarno, a medical doctor. They were developed for different purposes: DNRS was developed to address multiple or severe chemical food, electromagnetic, or environmental sensitivities (like mold, pollen, dust). Sarno developed his method to address chronic back pain originally and then he expanded the use for chronic pain syndromes in general.

Both of these methods consist of an educational component, and a set of mental exercises and practices that you practice on your own for a number of weeks or months. Both of these methods are relatively generic in terms of delivery, in other words you learn the method from watching videos, an online course, a workshop, or reading a book. The educational piece is delivered the same way for everyone.

Where it becomes specific is in how you apply the principles and exercises for yourself and how you see them operating in your own life. Both of these methods work with the conscious mind and conscious memories and while simple, I would say both of these methods are very effective which explains their popularity.

The role of trauma

However, when they're not effective, and I have found this to be in about 25-30% percent of clients, there's often a significant trauma history. This could be in the form of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or lifetime trauma. In sensitive individuals, these could be smaller traumas or painful emotional experiences, which might not register as trauma for others. When it comes to painful emotional experiences, the impact is very individual.

Traumas can also be infectious (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasites, etc.), chemical (anesthesia, medications, or severe chemical exposures) or physical (including injuries, or medical/dental procedures.) To the brain, any potential threat can be interpreted as a trauma.

Traumas create mental blocks that prevent a person from achieving their goals with simple neural retraining methods. This is where the basic methods often fall short: you're trying to create a new neural pathway over an old one that has some significant barriers. Do you see the problem? We have to deal with the blocks first before a new neural pathway can be successfully created.  This is where advanced methods are beneficial.

How can an advanced neural retraining method help?

For anyone who has been doing DNRS or Gupta or Sarno for 4-6 weeks without much benefit, or for the person that feels anxious or uncomfortable while doing the daily script repetitions and practices, it may be time to try an advanced neural retraining method.

The MAP Method is the latest energy psychology method, and is individualized in one-on-one sessions, delivered over Zoom videoconference. It's surprisingly gentle and effective. And it's particularly effective in these cases because it harnesses the power of your subconscious mind to uncover the blocks that are preventing progress.

With the MAP Method we can find those mental blocks and release them by neutralizing the painful emotional memories associated with them, and this allows you to re-engage with DNRS or the Sarno method and make progress, or in many cases people will just continue to use the MAP method to achieve their goal, whether it's overcoming sensitivities, chronic pain or chronic symptoms.

If you've found it difficult to commit to doing DNRS practices daily, the MAP Method offers a less time-consuming alternative. The rewiring happens in the session, no practice needed. The other advantage of the MAP Method for people who find it hard to visualize, or summon positive emotions and memories, is that working with the subconscious mind is easier and more powerful because the subconscious has access to all memories, everything that has ever happened to you.

So, if you have sensitivities, chronic pain, or physical symptoms, or you're having emotional distress and you don't understand why you are stuck in this pattern, we can use the MAP Method to guide the subconscious mind to find the root causes and neutralize them.

It's not necessary for you to know what trauma or what emotional experience is actually affecting you. Your subconscious mind already knows and through the process of a set of MAP sessions we  uncover the layers of issues that are affecting you. We start to diffuse them one by one by one until the conscious and unconscious stress on the psyche and the body are relieved to a point where the issue resolves itself.
