Show Notes

Join me for episode 66 where we talk with my client, Josie, about her experience with the MAP Method and what she has learned about how working with the mind impacts emotional, mental, and physical health. Hear how the benefits she experienced have even extended to her relationships, and her role as a parent, and how she used the MAP for Sensitivities Program for food and mold sensitivities.

In this episode we discuss:

  • How MAP compares to talk therapy and the benefits of working directly with the subconscious mind.
  • Why her “mind was blown” by her first MAP session and what it felt like to have a traumatic memory neutralized.
  • What it’s like to clear a traumatic memory in a MAP session and why it’s so freeing.
  • How working with the subconscious mind can reveal sticking points, such as the hidden significance of the memory.
  • The immediate effects of a MAP session: more clarity, lightness, empowerment. Longer term effects include feeling more peaceful and like you’ve reorganized things in your brain.
  • MAP for big T and little t traumas and how we can change the meaning of those events in a MAP session.
  • How MAP sessions have improved her relationships and helped her be more intentional in parenting.
  • Physical effects she has noted: resolution of stomach symptoms, elimination of food and mold sensitivities, less severe skin issues and improved sleep.
  • The benefits of continuity with MAP Programs, and how engaging with the learning modules, activities, and recorded sessions reinforces gains.
  • How the Sensitivities program works with fears and the shift from a fear-based mindset to a more secure empowered mindset.
  • The benefits of two years of MAP sessions in uncovering her authentic self, changing her personality in positive ways, and contributing to physical health.
  • Other resources she utilized, including the Mindbody Rewire program that is based on German New Medicine principles.
  • Changing her relationship to her symptoms has taken the pressure off resolving them; now she trusts her body to heal itself in its own time.

Moments

[3:20] I had tried everything, I’d been doing acupuncture, chinese herbs, massage and really just anything on the natural and functional health side and I was struggling. I was listening to a podcast on fertility and you were the guest. I just remember being instantly intrigued. It was my first introduction to the idea that maybe I shouldn’t be looking outside for the answer, to herbs or pills or some sort of physical modality, maybe I needed to be looking inside for those solutions.

[12:00] This [traumatic memory] was something I’d addressed in counseling, and it was helpful, but with MAP you can do 5 years of counseling in a few sessions. I had done a fair share of counseling, but basically in counseling you’re trying to let it out to the point where it doesn’t hurt anymore so you can move on with your life. What’s different about MAP is that even in that first session you quiet your mind so that your subconscious bubbles up. And then you realize, oh, this in particular is why this is so painful for me: it makes me feel like a failure, or I’m unimportant. That’s where MAP is really powerful.

[23:45]  Physical effects I have noticed: I had an uneasy feeling in my gut often before we started, not as severe as IBS, I don’t have that anymore. I don’t have stomach issues at all anymore. I had more food sensitivities, and I eat whatever I want now. My skin issues have improved and my sleep has improved.

[30:00] So much of the Sensitivities Program is about fear. We are just programmed to fear certain things, depending on your childhood. Doing that daily work on staying out of the fear-based mindset and empowering myself was monumental for me. When I was done with the program I was no longer sensitive to mold. I did all the steps to re-expose myself and I did not react.

[39:40] [Working with your mind] is absolutely foundational to physical health. I believe that you cannot address your physical symptoms without addressing your mind. Of course, medications can help, but they don’t get to the root cause. Your mind is leading the charge and your body will follow and that goes for positive and negative things.

[1:00:50] It all makes sense how I got here, it’s not that my body is out to get me. It’s that my body is trying to tell me something and I don’t know what it is. Between MAP and GNM it’s been translated down to a language I can read.
